Hot summer for REC Group in the U.S.
With a raft of fresh deals signed within the last few weeks, REC Group is expanding its solar footprint across the US
The deals are with companies nationwide:
- 26 MW of capacity was acquired by a major national renewable energy EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) company in Colorado
- 13 MW go to a multi-national developer and IPP for an installation in Rhode Island
- 16 MW was acquired by a joint community solar project between a major multi-national utility and EPC company and a local U.S. developer in Minnesota.
One of many similar projects throughout the U.S., Community Solar enables people and businesses to generate their own solar energy even if they do not have a suitable property to host an installation of their own. Stakeholders each receive credit on their electricity bills for their share of the solar power produced. The popularity of these ‘Shared Renewable Energy’ installations is soaring: Based on an analysis by the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA), the U.S. doubled community solar capacity in 2017. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) reports that through Q1 2018, 1,023 MW of community solar have been installed in the US. This is enough to power almost 170,000 average American homes.
“The recent deals are part of an entire decade of success for REC Group on the U.S. market,” says Cary Hayes, President of REC Americas. “And we consistently hear from U.S. installers and distributors that they highly rate the world-beating power output and long service life of the REC TwinPeak 2 solar panels, manufactured in our vertically-integrated production site in Singapore.”
Launching the product back in 2015, REC Group was the first manufacturer to mass-produce half-cut multi PERC cells, and the unique twin-module design has reaped REC multiple awards: Intersolar 2015 right after the series launch, Solar + Power 2017, and Made in Singapore 2017.
The U.S. represented roughly one third of REC Group’s global solar panel shipments in 2017 and continues to be the company’s key market. The first half of 2018 saw shipments increase by 23% compared to the same period last year. This is compelling evidence of the strong demand for REC’s premium niche product, which combines half-cut multi PERC cells with world-record power output of up to nearly 300 watt peak.
The REC TwinPeak 2 solar panel is not the only one driving the growth in REC’s U.S. sales. The company’s brand-new flagship product, the N-Peak Series of high-performance solar panels, made its U.S. debut in mid-July during Intersolar North America. A full month ahead of its production start in August, the new product has already captured its first order, from a long-standing U.S. partner for the residential segment. REC is confident that this latest series of solar panels, which is the world’s first n-type mono solar panel with half-cut cells and a twin design, will drive even stronger sales in the US market and elsewhere.
The REC N-Peak Series will be on a big stage again at the Solar Power International trade event in Anaheim, CA, September 24-27, 2018.
